Caffeine is an program that disables the screensaver and auto suspend. Very useful if I don’t want my laptop to sleep when I’m working on a project. I also have it set to activate when I go fullscreen which is especially useful for videos.
I’ve used Caffeine for years on my Macbook so of course I was thrilled when the same application was available on Linux. Sadly, it’s quite buggy and doesn’t work quite as well as I’d like.
There was a bug on Gnome that had finally made me look for an alternative. When I would try to click the power button to turn off or reboot my laptop, it would hang for 20-30 seconds. It’s been reported, but sadly it looks like it hasn’t been fixed for quite sometime.
I’ll be testing the Keep Awake extension as a replacement for Caffeine.
